The consent banner
Customize layout, copy, colors, and behavior.
The banner is what visitors see on their first visit. It explains your cookie use and collects a consent decision per category.
Layouts
- Box — a compact card in a corner of the screen.
- Bar — a full-width strip at the top or bottom.
- Modal — a centered dialog that dims the page until a choice is made.
Categories
CookieCrumb ships with four standard categories. Necessary cookies are always on; the rest are opt-in.
- Necessary — required for the site to function.
- Preferences — remember settings like language or theme.
- Analytics — measure traffic and usage.
- Marketing — personalize ads and track campaigns.
Buttons
Accept all, Reject all, and Customize are shown by default. We recommend giving Reject all equal visual weight to Accept all, which several regulators expect.
An imbalanced banner that nudges users toward Accept can undermine the validity of consent. Keep choices symmetrical.
